Overview:
Before Series 3, this was the top team in the game. While they didn't gain any figures in Series 3, R2-Q5 was a major help. It could easily be argued that they're still the top team in the game. Given how easily they were defeated in Episode 1, I'm not sure they really warrant that kind of power. And I'm also not sure why Grievous is the one Star Wars Attacktix figure that gets to carry the Cannon O' Death - he's most noted for his brief use of four lightsabers in Revenge of the Sith... I don't remember him even using a blaster.

While I'll never know why Grievous was the "Chosen One" for launcher figures, he's the figure that really puts this team on the map. No other launcher comes close to matching his power. His double-fisted lightsaber version is also very powerful, wielding an incredibly useful Special Power. The Droid Army also does well with two of its Troopers - the 40 point, large base, twin firing Destroyer Droid and the S2 Grievous Bodyguard with 12 speed.

Strikers:
This team really only has two Strikers: Grievous and the S2 Grievous Bodyguard. You can toss out the S1 Grievous Bodyguard because of his lesser speed and limited Special Power. Luckily, two Strikers are all they really need. Thanks to R2-Q5, the S2 Grievous Bodyguard has the potential to move 24 tix - making him a threat to most figures on a standard playing area. Striker Grievous can be tough to master, but it is worth the effort. He's only 20 points, has 12 speed and can really pack a punch with his saber.

Launchers:
No other team is equal here. Missile packing Grievous has yet to be matched and may never be. The Destroyer Droid is also a force to be reckoned with, as its two bullets are pretty powerful for small missiles. It can try to get two figures in one turn, or it can try and break a figure out of formation with its first shot and then try for the kill on shot number two. The Destroyer Droid's large base also makes it tough to bring down and its loaded guns can double as extra “legs” for additional defensive support. The rest of the Launchers are pretty weak, but they may never see the playing field anyway, so it doesn't matter too much.

Special Powers:
The Droid Army is somewhat limited in its Special Powers, but what it does have complements the team very nicely. Depending on your Grievous launcher, you have the option to Rescue (38%, Opponent must have a Jedi in play) or Attackback (50%) for two other Droid Army figures. The Destroyer Droid can Rescue at a decent ratio (38%) and the Series 2 Grievous Bodyguard has the option of a Shootback (31%) for any of your Droid Army Launchers. Since this team has arguably the two best Launchers in the game, that's a great bonus. S2 Striker Grievous has the potential to enact Vengeance (69%) on any of your opponent's Warriors. That's a great power as well, because nearly all of the best figures in the game are Warriors. There are two options to try and Rally back two defeated Droid Army figures - Battle Droid Commander (23%) and Gold Nute Gunray (38%). Gold Nute Gunray is a 30 point figure, 10 points more than the Battle Droid Commander. If you want a Rally figure, Nute Gunray is worth the extra 10 points.

Effects:
While the Droid Army doesn't have any of its own Effects figures, it benefits more from the Imperial R2-Q5 than any other team. 24 tix for a Grievous Bodyguard is something you can build an entire strategy around, as it's nearly impossible for your opponent to stay out of your range. R2-Q5's Special Power benefits the Droid Army as well, as it can Rally (15%) one of your defeated Troopers. It's nice to get a Grievous Bodyguard back - but it's even better to return a Destroyer Droid! That Rally power counts even if R2-Q5 is your last figure on the table. R2-Q5 is a must have for any Droid Army lover.

Other Figures:
The Droid Army is another team (like the Rebels) that really can stand alone. All of their Special Powers help their team out, so it's easy to stay within this faction. I sometimes use S2 Starter Kenobi with these guys, and I think the S3 Imperial Officer with the Charge special (for two troopers) could be beneficial as well. That would be the equivalent of having two GBG's be able to move 24 tix.

Team Suggestions:
100 Points:
(60) 2x Grievous Launcher (S1 or S2)
(40) 3x Grievous Bodyguard (S2)
(10) 1x R2-Q5

200 Points:
(40) 1x Destroyer Droid
(60) 2x Grievous Launcher (S1 or S2)
(40) 2x Grievous Striker
(10) 1x R2-Q5
(50) 5x Grievous Bodyguard (S2)

200 Points:
(60) 2x Grievous Launcher (S1 or S2)
(30) 1x Gold Nute Gunray
(10) 1x R2-Q5
(60) 6x Grievous Bodyguard (S2)
(40) 2x Striker Grievous

Yes, all of those teams have the R2-Q5 + S2 GBG combo in them. 24 tix is just too good for me to pass up. In a way I'm surprised Hasbro even gave us that option, it almost feels like cheating. I also always use the Grievous Launchers on my Droid Army teams. He's far and away the best Launcher in the game, why not put him to use?
